ED vs Bengal Govt: Calcutta High Court Drawn Into Raid Row After Alleged Evidence Seizure
The Enforcement Directorate has approached the Calcutta High Court after raising strong objections against the West Bengal government over events that allegedly occurred during an official search operation. As per the agency’s version, while its officers were carrying out a raid linked to a financial investigation, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is said to have arrived at the home and workplace of the I-PAC chief. The ED claims that this sudden presence affected the proceedings of the search and that several important documents and digital materials, which were considered vital to the case, were removed from the location.
In its petition, the central agency has expressed concern that such interference could seriously hamper an ongoing investigation and compromise the collection of evidence. The ED has requested the court to issue directions that would safeguard the integrity of the probe and prevent any influence on its work. Meanwhile, the ruling Trinamool Congress has countered these accusations, calling them baseless and accusing central agencies of acting under political pressure. With both sides presenting contrasting narratives, the issue has now entered the judicial domain, where the High Court will assess the facts and determine the next legal steps.
